This
department is responsible for enforcing various chapters of
the Mountlake Terrace Municipal Code that address public health
and safety issues, including regulations related to nuisances
such as; junk or inoperable vehicles on public and private
property, accumulations of debris, garbage, and neglected
items, and city parking issues, which include abandoned, hazardous,
or improperly parked vehicles.
Other areas of enforcement include issues related to reporting
and removal of graffiti, fire lane and disabled parking enforcement
and maintenance, assisting patrol officers with stolen vehicle
recoveries, traffic control, and investigations.
Code
Enforcement continues to work towards establishing positive
partnerships with commercial properties, businesses and apartment
management to reduce the precipitators of public nuisances.
The
Code Enforcement Process
Violations
may be reported to code enforcement. Generally the violation
is verified promptly and then prioritized by urgency. The
timeframe of compliance depends on the severity of the property
condition, the resident’s ability and cooperation for
voluntary correction, and order in which complaints are received
and the existing caseload.
All citizens are given “due process” to correct
a violation once they have been notified by the city. This
means that they are told what the violation is, what they
must do to correct it, and a reasonable amount of time to
comply.
