Get Involved

How Do I Get Involved?
There are many ways to get involved in your local government to enhance the quality of life for your community. You can volunteer to serve on a Board or Commission that makes recommendations to the City Council and helps plan civic events such as National Night Out. Community organizations such as Tour de Terrace, Friends of the Arts, Friends of the Library, Garden Club, Seniors Group, and Crime Watch are always in need of a helping hand. Click here to view contact information for these community organizations.

Each spring, the City sponsors a volunteer community clean up of parks and city facilities followed by a barbecue hosted by the City Council. You, your family, or your organization can participate by giving up a Saturday morning in May and help make the city shine!

And last but not least, your City Council meets each first and third Monday night at 7:00 pm, unless it's a national holiday. Feel free to stop by City Hall and see your legislators in action. Meeting agendas are posted around town and on the City's website.

How Can I Stay Informed?
If you cannot get involved on a regular basis, it's easy to stay informed. Council meetings are available over the Internet to listen to at your convenience through archived meetings, including MP3 downloads. Meeting materials are linked to agendas, so you can follow the actions of your elected officials. The City's improved website offers a new email notification service so you can get updates about general city news, the City Manager weekly report or specific topics of interest, including project updates, events, and public safety alerts. The Recreation Pavilion co-publishes the CRAZE newsletter with a listing of all the recreation programs in our community including our nationally and internationally acclaimed aquatics program.

City Happenings, the City's newsletter, is published every other month and mailed to all addresses within Mountlake Terrace and is also available on the City's website. Channel 21's message board features information about what's happening in Mountlake Terrace. "Coffee with the City" offers a casual conversation setting with City Officials at the Pavilion Jungle Room.

Kiosks in the lobbies of City Hall, Library, Post Office and the Pavilion notify you of upcoming Public Hearings and Council meetings as well as ordinances that have recently been adopted. All of these measures and more have been implemented by your City Council to meet their goal of implementing more effective communication and outreach with the community.

If you still need more information or want to find out how to get involved in any of these or other activities, please contact Virginia Olsen, City Clerk and Community Relations Director, at (425) 744-6206 or via email at cityhall@ci.mlt.wa.us.
